Basketball Rankings

  1. Sanford (9-2)The Warriors are in a familiar position of being the top-ranked boys basketball team in DE.  Sanford defeated Lower Moreland HS (Pa.) 71-55, led by superb point-guard Mikey Dixon’s 26 points.  Both of the Warriors losses have come from out-of-state teams.
  2. William Penn (9-1) – The Colonials are the hottest team in the state riding a 8-game winning streak with wins over St. Elizabeth’s, arch-rival Newark and defeating Westinghouse HS (NY) 64-55 in the Concord Classic on MLK day, behind a well rounded performance from guard Danny Walsh 13 pts., Center Malik Hines 14 pts. and Forward Markee Johnson who had a game-high 20 points.
  3.  Mount Pleasant (9-3) –  The Green Knights suffered a 66-57 set-back against a highly-ranked American History HS team from Newark, New Jersey that got a tremendous game from 6-6 forward Yvens Monfluery who recorded 21 points and 25 rebounds!  Mount Pleasant should rebound as district-rival Brandywine visits The Castle this Saturday for a 4:30pm tip-off.
  4. St. George’s Tech (10-2) – The Hawks started 10-0 with senior guard Lamar Hamrick along with junior guard Kyson Rawls doing much of the offensive damage.  St. Georges is now 10-2 after being defeated by Academy of New Church (Pa.) 68-52 and losing to Our Savior Lutheran (NY) 43-40 during Monday’s Concord Classic.  Next the Hawks will pay a visit to #2 William Penn Thursday night 6:15pm tip-off.
  5. Appoquinimink (6-2) – The Jaguars last played January 5th, when they upset then top-ranked Mount Pleasant 55-54 led by senior Kristian Alexander’s 17 points and junior Myles Cale 16 points.  Appoquinimink hosts Glasgow next Tuesday January 19th 5:45pm tip-off.
  6. Dover (8-3) – The Senators have won 5 in a row after losing to Sanford 77-59 in the Slam Dunk to the Beach Tournament.  Dover faces Milford Thursday night January 21st 6:15pm tip-off.
  7. Salesianum (6-3) – The Sals have won 3 in a row getting past Downingtown East (Pa.) 52-49 on MLK Day in the Concord Classic.  Salesianum hosts Catholic-rival St. Mark’s, Friday January 22nd 5:45pm tip-off.
  8. Smyrna (7-2) – The Eagles defeated East Orange Campus (NJ) 54-48 in the Concord Classic with senior forward Ja’vier Worthy scoring a game-high 17 points.  Smyrna travels south to Sussex Central Tuesday night January 19th for a 6:15pm tip-off.
  9. St. Elizabeth’s (7-3) – The Vikings have lost 2 in a row to the state’s top two ranked teams Sanford & William Penn since a big road win over Salesianum 60-47.  St. E’s goes on the road to St. Marks Tuesday night looking for their 8th win, 6:15pm tip-off.
  10. Newark (10-3) – The Yellowjackets have won 2 in a row defeating Red Lion Christian Academy and St. Andrews, after dropping two straight.  Newark doesn’t play again until Tuesday, January 26th hosting A.I. DuPont, 5:15pm tip-off.
