From Flight A to the ACC – William Penn’s Zach Burton

September 7th, 2016 in Football, News, Website, William Penn

Week One Diary

It’s finally the end of pre-season with our first game this weekend.  School has started and our record is now 0-0.  It’s up to my teammates and I to determine how we finish, it’s in our hands.  This off-season was a such a rollercoaster.  One minute I was set out to play wideout, and the next thing I know I was given the task to play QB.  Which I gladly accepted knowing that the coaching staff believes that’s what best for the team.  Playing quarterback, I have to read the defense. While playing my main position at corner back I read the quarterback.  The position change has been helpful.

Another part of  this off-season rollercoaster ride has been my brother Frank leaving to play football at Ball State.  Frank and I have always prepared ourselves for this moment, so I know that everything will be alright.  Lastly, the one big thing that is off of my shoulders now is being committed to the University of Virginia.  I can finally focus on my senior year trying to bring a championship back to 713 E. Basin Rd before I graduate.  Speaking of UVA, I went to the season opener this past week.  Unfortunately, we lost to in-state rival University of Richmond.  It was tough watching from the sidelines knowing I’ll be apart of the team. I believe that UVA, with Coach Mendenhall and the rest of his staff will put the Hoos in the best position to be ACC champs and even national championship contenders. I’ll be paying attention to see how they do this season but before anything, I am ready for my senior year at William Penn to get rolling.  Until next time,

GO HOOS!
